The Number One Thing Holding Your Business Back!

Is To Much Perfection Hurting Your Business!

If you are the type of person who doesn’t settle for anything less than 100%, you might be hurting your business! This rule we are about to teach can be the difference maker in growing, maintaining, or killing the business!

I don’t want you to think that we are communicating put out crappy work or don’t protect a benchmark standard and your business will do great! The key is to create a standard you can maintain and makes you money while still delivering quality and care. We talk with all types of business owners; a lot of these owners are truly perfectionists! That’s not a bad thing, however, it might be holding your business back and here’s why…

The Perfect Business

Let’s say you own a burger joint “Jim’s Perfect Burgs” and you pride yourself on making the absolute perfect burger for every one of your customers! A new customer walks in the door and you get ready to assemble the perfect burger. The customer orders and you crack open that bun and start to dress it up. Ensuring every onion, pickle, the condiment is perfectly laid out on the burger. This ends up taking you 10 to 15 minutes longer to assemble and deliver what is in your mind the absolute 100% perfect burger creation!

The problem becomes people are waiting in line longer, you have trouble hiring employees because no one can replicate the 100% perfect burger, so you end up trying to do all of it yourself. When the expectation is 100% perfection, anything that does not meet that expectation becomes, in your mind, unacceptable and distrusting.

Did You Know Perfection Can Kill Business Growth?

DID YOU KNOW? It takes you the same amount of time to create the 90% perfect burger AND it takes you the same amount of time to take that 90% to 100% perfect! This means it’s costing you 2X more to create that perfect burger! The reality is the customer cannot tell the difference in your 90% or 100% perfect burger, you must understand your 90% is often your customers 200% perfect! 100% perfection is very hard to replicate but any business can replicate 90% with proper systems, process, and training!

Business Growth With 90%

I consider McDonald’s as a perfect analogy. Tons of people go to eat every day feeding 68 million people a day or 1% of the world’s population. Anytime you go, you know what to expect and how it’s going to taste! You don’t notice if the pickle or onion is off a tad, maybe it’s not a mirror reflection of the picture but, that doesn’t stop you from going to McDonald’s! They are building 80-90% perfect burgers and that gives them predictability, control, consistency and enables them to produce at quantities great enough to serve mass quantities of customers a day. Their training system that creates this consistency is known as one of the best training programs in the world. In order to grow your business, you will need to let go of some of the control and empower your people with training, quality assurance at that 90% level, and a process to give any one team member a good outcome.

The 90% Rule

The 90% rule means there isn’t much money in the last 10%. So focus on the 90% that makes you money! Create your standards that deliver quality and consistency at your 90% mark. This will allow your team to recreate your 90% standard and maintain high quality, allowing you to delegate and grow your business!

We see tons of business owners struggling to let go and break out of the 100% mentality! It doesn’t matter if you are in the cleaning, auto, food, hospitality, trades, engineering, or any industry! This Rule applies!
